BaiMed Women’s Health service is the leading provider of wholistic women’s health physiotherapy in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven.

Our all-female team of physiotherapists have experience and additional postgraduate training in women’s pelvic health and seek to incorporate this knowledge into musculoskeletal practice.

Common concerns which can be addressed by women’s health physiotherapy may include:
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Prolapse management and pessary fitting
  • Pregnancy and preparation for birth
  • Postpartum assessment and rehabilitation
  • Bladder and bowel dysfunction
  • Pelvic pain and sexual discomfort
  • Multidisciplinary support together with local specialists (OB/GYN/UROLOGY)
  • Musculosketelal physiotherapy considerations across female cycle from puberty to post-menopause

Managing pelvic problems from the “inside out” means our team can provide wholistic recovery, starting with the pelvic floor, addressing related musculoskeletal symptoms and incorporating whole body function so you can get back to doing all the activities that you love best.

We are passionate about optimising the health and function of all women.

How does women health physio differ from my other physio visits at BaiMed?
Clinic visits for women’s health physiotherapy will involve an extended 60-minute initial consultation. You will have time to share your story, complete assessment and diagnosis and be empowered to plan your recovery together with your clinician. We provide support, education and evidence-based treatment plans so that you can understand what to expect and how many subsequent visits may be required to see positive results.
Can I bring my baby?
We welcome newborn bubs into all our clinics and classes, preferably with a capsule or pram so they are safe when grown-ups are moving around the room or exercising nearby. Breast and bottle feeding is welcome during all sessions and nappy change facilities are available.
Will internal vaginal examination be necessary?
Some conditions are most accurately assessed using internal gynaecological examination, however many of our sessions can occur while a woman remains clothed if this is preferred. Vaginal examination would be performed only after full subjective history and patient education has been completed, with the informed consent of our patients. All our therapists practice trauma-informed care and appreciate the importance of confidentiality and respect for all sexual orientations and experiences
Can I attend WH pelvic physiotherapy whilst menstruating?
For your own comfort, please inform your therapist prior to the appointment if you are in the first few days of heavy bleeding in your regular cycle. Usually, sessions can continue with some modification of treatment options regardless. We acknowledge that some pelvic health conditions may cause light persistent, unpredictable bleeding. Our clinical hygiene policy means that this can be accommodated if necessary.
